Why does my PC only recognize half of the memory capacity of my new RAM memory module?
This problem is related to the motherboard. The motherboard has a maximum limitation regarding the number of RAM memory modules which can be supported and for this reason the following message is displayed: ?The main storage supports a maximum memory size of 256 MB (for the 64 bit technology) or 512 MB (for the 128 bit technology) SDRAM.?
The corresponding formula is:
Total capacity of the DIMM memory module in Mbytes * 8 / the number of chips on the DIMM = memory capacity in Mbit per chip.
In order to achieve the maximum memory capacity of 512 MB according to the description you need two 256 MB DIMM RAM memory modules with a total of 16 memory chips.
The BIOS update will help you to solve this problem.
